Hi everyone

Started taking Enbrel and have now had two weeks of the drug. All ok with it and no side effects at the moment. However, I am in terrible pain with my feet. I can hardly walk and am struggling at work with the pain. At the moment I am on 30mg of Amitriptylene for the pain, but it is not helping at all. Phoned my Rheumy today for advice to see if I could increase it, and she has not got back to me yet. Does anyone have any advice for a good pain killer?

Louise,

I have various levels of paracetamol and codeine tables. Normal co-codamol, Co-dydramol and co-codamol 30/500 to take depending how bad the pain is. I know it's difficult to guage when you have to actually put all your weight on your feet but the top strengh ones do seem to take the edge off. I know that other people take a whole range of pain relief. I'm sure people will post with other ideas.

Hi Louise - I take 75mg of amitriptyline at night and it helps with the pain enormously during the night. It wasn't sufficiently effective till I was at this dose. In the day I take co-cod 30/500 or tramacet, depending on the level of pain.

Hope you can sort out something effective to help you manage XX Ailsa

Thanks Ailsa

My consultant has said I can go up to 40mg of amitriptyline at night so starting them tonight. Will keep my fingers crossed as the pain in my feet is terrible at the moment.

Hi Louise,

So sorry to hear about your pain in your feet, there is no getting away from that one as we are on our feet constantly. My dad was put on Gabapentin Tablets for severe pain recently, I know this is given to RA patients as others are on it. You start low and build up to a maximum dose, you could ask your doctor it may be helpful. take care Lorna x Smile

Hi Louise,I hope the Amitrip does the trick for you it's very distressing with the constant pain. I saw my Rheumy on Monday, I've been feeling the same and wanted to try the Gabapentin but he wants to try another increase in the Amitrip, I've been on 50mg for some time but I don't want to take higher dose, I have a terribly dry mouth, my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth and my teeth are starting to suffer, my dentist says tht it is the dry mouth that is causing it. I'm also taking tramadol 150mg prolonged release twice daily, naproxen 500mg twice daily and paracetamol four times daily. I had surgery last month and I was given a morphine pump, the first time in a long time with out pain, bliss. Glenys.
